"THE   BLOOD   OF   JESUS"   (Heb 10:1-19

Jan 15th,  2012

Int.      The phrase “The Blood of Jesus” is found three times in our Bible, but the message is in every book.

I.       CONSIDER THAT THE "FORGIVENESS OF SINS COMES THROUGH   THE   BLOOD   OF   JESUS.

          A.      THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS OUR ONLY MEANS OF THE ATONEMENT.

                                1.       (Lev 17:11)  "For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul."

                   2.       J. S. Baxter’s Awake my heart: (Pg. 124)

"There was no other good enough

    To pay the price of sin.

He only could unlock the gate

    Of heav'n and let us in."

                   3.       Don Fortner:    Christ the WayAll worship except the worship of God through the blood atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ is idolatry; and all idolatry is the worship of devils.   (Lev 17:1_10).

Five bleeding wounds He bears,

Received on Calvary;

They pour effectual prayers,

They strongly plead for me:

 "Forgive him, oh, forgive," they cry,

"Nor let that ransomed sinner die."

          B.      JAMES   SMITH   PUT   IT   THIS   WAY:

                   1.       Christ died FOR US,

                             a.       As the Surety for the debtors He had undertaken to set free,

                             b.       As the Redeemer for captives He was pledged to deliver,

                             c.       As the Husband for His beloved but fallen bride,

                             d.       As the Shepherd for the flock entrusted to His care!

"Jesus, my great High Priest,

     Offered his blood, and died;

My guilty conscience seeks

     No sacrifice beside.

His powerful blood did once atone,

     And now it pleads before the throne."

          C.      THE BLOOD OF CHRIST BRINGS PEACE TO THE REPENTANT   SOUL.

                   1.       (Col 1:20)  "And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven."

                             a.       The blood of Jesus is the only way we can be  accepted in the beloved” (Eph. 1:6)

                             b.       The blood of Jesus is the only way we can become “partakers of Christ," (Heb. 3:14)

                             c.       The blood of Jesus the reason for the message in (Acts 13:38-39)

                             d.       The blood of Jesus that we are (Rom 3:24)  ".... justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"

                             e.       The blood of Jesus is called “PRECIOUS BLOOD(1 Pet 1:19)

My terrors all vanishd before His  sweet name,

My guilty fears vanish'd, ----with boldness I came

To drink at the Fountain, life_giving and free

Jehovah Tsidkenu   is all things to me."

                   2.       Matthew Poole: "By him;  which alone could satisfy his offended Father’s demands: angels could not shed blood which was necessary to make peace and reconcile enemies; and though some false apostles might seduce to the worshipping of them, their obedience could not be meritorious."

                   3.       (Rom 5:1)  "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:"

                             a.       The word “Peace” is found 439 times in our Bible.

                   4.       John Owen: "Nothing can give perfect peace of conscience with God but what can make atonement for sin. And whoever attempts it in any other way but by virtue of that atonement will never attain it, in this world or hereafter."

"PEACE"   E.H. Bickersteth

Peace, perfect peace? in this dark world of sin!

The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.

Peace, perfect peace? by thronging duties pressed!

 To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.

Peace, perfect peace? with sorrows surging round!

On Jesus' bosom naught but calm is found.

Peace, perfect peace? with loved ones far away!

In Jesus' keeping we are safe, and they.

Peace, perfect peace? our future all unknown!

Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.

Peace, perfect peace? death shadowing us and ours!

Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers.

It is enough: earth's struggles soon shall cease,

And Jesus call us to heaven's perfect peace.

                   5.       "Islam" does not mean "peace." It means submission." The word for peace in Arabic is "Salaam.

                   6.       Peace comes via a sacrifice of blood. (Lev 3:1

                   7.       (Lev 3:1)  "And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD."

                                                a.       The phrase “Peace Offering” is found four times , all in (Lev 3)

                             b.       The phrase “Peace Offeings” is found 83 times.

                   8.       (Isa 9:6)  "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

                                9.             (Isa 53:5)  "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

                   10.     Thomas Watson said: "Cursed be that peace which makes war with the Prince of Peace."

                   11.     Paul says:  (Phil 4:7)  "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

          D.      CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCE OF NOT BELIEVING THIS MESSAGE ON THE BLOOD OF JESUS.

                   1.       (John 1:29)  "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

                                                a.       “The meaning plainly is, that Jesus is the God appointed Taker_away of sin for the world.”

                             b.       We find him asserting this, when He says, “The Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins" (Matt: 9:6);

                   2.       (Mark 16:16)  "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

                                3.       (1 John 1:7)  "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."

                   4.       Paul refused to talk about anything else to the Corinthians.  (1 Cor.2:2)

                   5.       There is nothing that can be added to the Blood of Jesus.  (Jn 19:30)\

                             a.       Te/te/les/tai, “IT IS FINISHED”

                                                                   b.       The cry of the Reformers was:  Solus Christus    (Christ Alone)

                                                c.       (John 17:4)  "I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do."

                                1.       (1 Cor 3:11)  "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ."

II.      SOME   SUBSTITUTE   CONVICTIONS   FOR   THEIR   HOPE   OF SALVATION.

          A.      THE   BLOOD   OF JESUS CHRIST IS OUR ONLY FOUNDATION   OF   SALVATION.

                   1.       Convictions of sin are precious ; but they bring no safety, no peace, no salvation, no security, but war, and storm, and trouble.

                   2.       It is well to be awakened from sleep when danger is hanging over us ; but to awake from sleep is not to escape from danger.

                   3.       It is only to be sensible of danger, nothing more.

                   4.       In like manner, to be convinced of your sins is merely to be made sensible that your soul is in danger.

                   5.       (1 Pet 2:24)  "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."

                             a.       (Col 2:10)  "And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:"

                                      1.       Nothing can be added or subtracted from this truth.

                                6.       (Rom 8:1)  "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

                                7.       Our song in heaven will be:  (Rev 5:12)  "Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."

II.      CONSIDER   THAT   THE   BLOOD   OF   JESUS   IS   A   GIFT   FROM   GOD.

          A.      SALVATION   COMES   AS   A   GIFT   FROM   HEAVEN.

                                1.       (Eph 2:8-10)  "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any man should boast. {10} For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

                                2.       (Rom 6:23)  "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

                                3.       (John 3:16)  "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

                                4.       (Isa 53:10-11)  "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. {11} He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities."

                                5.       (Rev 22:17)  "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."

                                6.       (Isa 55:1)  "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price."

                   7.       (1 John 1:7)  "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."

          B.      THE   BLOOD   OF   JESUS   WAS   FORSHADOWED   LONG AGO.

                                1.       (Exo 12:13)  "And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt."

                             a.       Not your good deeds, charity, etc., but:    “When I see the blood”

                             b.       Not when the Israelite saw the blood, because he could not see it.

                                      1.       The blood was on the outside.....Only God could see it.

          C.      CONSIDER   THAT   GOD  DID NOT SEND PREACHING PEACE   BY   THE   HOLY   SPIRIT,   BUT   BY   JESUS CHRIST.

                                1.       (Acts 10:36)  "The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)"

                   2.       (Eph 2:14)  "For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;"

                   3.       (Eph 2:17)  "And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh."

                   4.       (Col 1:20)  "And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven."

          D.      CONSIDER   THAT   ONCE COVERED BY HIS BLOOD; WE ARE SEALED BY HIS SPIRIT.

                   1.       (Eph 1:13)  "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"

CONCLUSION: The message of the blood of Jesus Christ is the very essence of the gospel.

1.       (Rom 1:1-2)  "Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, {2} (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)"

2.             (Acts 20:24)  "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God."

3.        (1 Pet 3:18)  "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:"

4.       (1 Cor 15:3-4)  "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; {4} And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

A MIND AT PERFECT PEACE WITH GOD;

Oh, what a word is this!

A SINNER RECONCILED THROUGH BLOOD;

THIS,  THIS,  INDEED, IS PEACE!

"By nature and by practice far_

How very far!_from God;

Yet now by grace brought nigh to Him

THROUGH   FAITH   IN   JESUS   BLOOD.

"So nigh, so very nigh to God,

I cannot nearer be;

For in the Person of His Son,

I am as near as He.

"So dear, so very dear to God,

More dear I cannot be;

The love wherewith He loves the Son,

Such is His love to me.

"Why should I ever careful be,

Since such a God is mine?

He watches o'er me night and day,

And tells me, MINE   IS   THINE.
